Why should you pitch your music?

The best way to get your music heard by a large number of audiences is to get placed in the editorial playlists. The more your songs get playlisted the more you can create chances to get heard. It will definitely boost your chance to earn revenues from it and create a huge fanbase on Spotify. However, you have to follow some terms and conditions to get your songs selected through successful pitching.

What are the pitching tools?

The Spotify tools aim at improving the quality of the playing curtain process and give an opportunity to more artists to get featured on the editorial playlist of Spotify. It is also a process to give a variety of music to the listeners. Artists can submit unreleased songs with some information to get found by the editors and consider it for one of their playlists.

Important things you have to know about pitching

• Pitch your music much earlier than your mentioned release date so that the editors get enough time to listen to it.

• If you see the status 'available soon', it means they are still processing your song; you need to wait for a few days for acceptance.

• Compilations can’t be pitched

• You can’t pitch you are a featured artist in the song

• The editors can pick a different song for their playlist from your release.

• Anyone having editor access can edit the pitch of your release

• Although you can change the pitch till the release date, there is no assurance about the acceptance of the pitch.

How you will know your song is picked

Spotify will mail you if your song gets picked. You can check the song from its playlists tab in Spotify for Artists. Pitching does not mean that you will get a direct placement. If your song is not picked, stay on the editor’s radar till the time it is discovered. Build your fanbase and engage with your audience on Spotify.

Label-only pitch

Labels and licensors can make your pitches label only. Artists and editors can see the songs and who pitched them but cannot change a few things like Genre, culture tags, and genre of the songs.

If you need help you can always reach out to your licensors or label.

How editors select the songs for the playlist

There are a few numbers of things that the editors check.

• Each playlist is made keeping the listeners in mind: the genre, artists, and other preferences.

• Editors see which artists have pitched much earlier than the release date.

• Editors tag your songs so that they can drop your songs in the right playlist.

• Editors choose songs that add more value and power to the playlists. It has to be accurate for the playlists otherwise it will get rejected.

• Editors prefer those songs that have been heard most by the listeners. Better you share your music so that editors have to fall your song into the playlists.

So, these are the things that you need to know and follow before pitching your songs to the editors to maximize the probability of your selection.
